evaluation 7

PRELIM:

                      MAIN TASK:

It is clear to see when comparing my prelim and final product that i have more of an understanding towards both software and programmes that i have used throughout the production.  both of my front covers were designed on photoshop and it is apparent that i didnt have many skills at first as the image that is on my prelim cover has had no touch ups or anything done to it so it shows that my skills on this programme were minimal. when it came to producing my final product (main task) my skills had developed and this is clear to see in my products as i have edited my image, imported images from the internet, rotated text and used variations of fonts that have been chosen depending on my magazine genre.

my photography skills are also something else that has improved as my prelim image is just of my model standing straight on which looks very boring, however i did a bit of research and this is the pose that tends to be used by many other magazines for the front cover as it is advised this way. the background colour on my prelim cover was black and initially thought that this would be the best colour however when looking back at it i think that it would of been best to be white as the cover looks too dull and doesnt show off all of my skills. i knew that when i was to complete my main tasks cover that my photography needed to be amazing as my skills needed to be demonstrated, i knew that i wanted a white background, so i needed to make sure that the lighting was appropriate i learnt what a three point lighting set up was which was done in the studio. i also looked in to the styles of photography that i could produce in my product and this helped me create a wide variety.

the page layout on both of my covers is fairly similar as the image is straight on in the middle and the eyeline is in a similar area and my reasons for this are that i wanted my readers to be able to relate to them and i found that the best way to do this would be through costume and eyeline as it is something that needed to be picked up upon. in my prelim cover the sell lines are all over the place and were all the same colour and the same standard font, i changed this when i went onto design my main task and my reasons were that it looked too basic before and too immature. i decided that i would change the page layout as i had researched into popular page layouts to see which ones work well in the industry . the reasons for my research was that i was unsure of an idea for myself so thought that the bet way would be look but not to copy, i took influence mainly from Q magazine. as you can tell from my prelim task the colours do not really go together very well so this was something that i picked up on as i wanted my colours to be unusual colours as i wanted my readers to think that my magazine was professional and not child like.

another aspect that i took into consideration was my choice of models, i chose them carefully this time as i knew that i had plenty of time to style them to how i initially planned, i took into consideration the music genre that i was hoping to portray when styling my models as the clothing was something that needed to be worked on as in my prelim i didnt tell my model what i wanted her to wear as i like her individual style where as i wanted to portray a character in my main task.  when i chose the genre of magazine i was to produce i then thought about the context that would be included in my magazine as it had to link in. the difference between the context of my prelim and my main task is that the prelim consisted on context that was based around a college and the main task is for a music magazine so immediately the context is going to be different as it is context dependant.

The contents pages that i designed for both were fairly different as it is apparent that my skills have increased when looking back at my prelim page.
The prelim contents page shows that my skills on inDesign where it was desgined were fairly minimal. InDesign was a programme to me that was new as i had never used it before and this was clearly shown in  my products. i wanted my contents page to be simple as i wanted all of the attention to be focused on my cover and the content involved. when comparing both of my contents pages there are some apparent changes that are clear to the eye. when designing my prlim i wanst too sure what i wanted my layout to be so i though that it would be good to have sell lines down the side along with some images, however i chose to follow the same format for my main task but i developed this idea more and made it look professional with more sell lines and to have a more clear colour scheme that was bold.

I tried to keep the alignment the same on both my prelim and main task but knew that it needed to be developed for it to look more professional and less immature. For my main task i wanted to keep to a three column set up as i realised that this would make it look more professional and it was a common theme that is used in professional magazine and it 3was my initial idea to have this included this shows that my knowledge has increased as in my prelim i just wanted to keep it simple and by looking at it you can tell that i had no idea what i wanted my product to look like. The allignment of my text in the prelim product are all in line but there is too much spacing between the page titles, the images are also in line with each other byt they look too big for the page as the text should be the most important part of this page. When it came to doing my main task i used rulers around the sides of the page so i coudld see whether or not i was in the line so that none of my text could be cut off. I also knew that i wanted my page to be full of information that was valid to my music genre. When looking back at my prelim contents page it is apparent that there is a lot of white space which needed to be filled, in the process of creating my final product in the main task i was told to keep adding information as i didnt want any blank space as it wouldnt look professional. My images are different in my main task as i have managed to edit them and crop them without taking away the focus of the image, at the start of my production i wouldnt of been able to do this but after going through the tutorials of inDeisgn i was finally able to do this.

here this image shows me working on the MAC that all of my work has been completed on. i have developed my skills by using this piece of software as my skills were originally non existant when using it as i hadnt used one before. i now find it easier to use this piece of software as my confidence has grown when using it.

throughout my production i have used this camera which has stored all of my images on that i have taken, i had to take this camera home with me as i wanted some of the images to be taken on a textured wall which wasn't provided at college as i knew what i wanted it to look like and where also this was more convenient for my models. this camera that i have used has given me good quality images as it provides a grid on screen which allows me to position my models appropriately. from using a camera of this quality it has shown me how good the quality can be when it is used correctly.

throughout my production the main piece of software that i have used is photoshop. the image that is on the left is the image that i took which was edited .  the image on the right is how my main image on my front cover turned out, the way that i got it to look like this was that i first changed it to black and white but decided that the image looked plain so i had to drag around the areas that i wanted to remain in colour so i chose the eyes and lip colour however i enhanced these colours so that it stood out.

final cut is a programme that i used when it came to the evaluation stages and i used it to create evaluation 2. it benefitted me as i was able to create a presentation of how i represented different social groups. by using final cut i was able to insert my images which were screenshots and to include written text . the image on the right shows the final production of my evaluation question. I managed to use this programme for the first time and it allowed me to put all of my skills to use when evaluating my own work.

at first i produced my work on photoshop which was used for my front cover but then i transferred my work to inDesign my work was then created in inDesign. inDesign was a programme that i hadnt used before this course so all of my skills that i put into this work were new to me. inDesign constantly gave me a choice of what

www.prezi.com this is where i was able to make a presentation of my evaluation it was a piece of software that i have now used numerous times and has helped me to increase on my skills of the programme.
www.blogger.comis the programme where all of my posts have been recorded which includes the steps up to my final products and evaluations. when starting my AS course this was the first time that i had managed a blog. by using blogger it has allowed me to develop new skills such as embedding my presentations from other software programmes. I liked the idea of using blogger as i was able to be able to do my work whereever i was and there was no excuse for not doing it.

evaluation 5

this is the final product of my media magazine for music and is my final front cover. I chose to use these colours as these were colours that done tend to be used on the front cover of any magazine let alone a general music one. I decided to follow the style of a professional one and the reasons for this were that if i followed it then i was guaranteed to include every feature in it and it would look as professional as possible. The general style of my magazine took influence from a professional one as this was advised. To get the appeal of my audience i decided that i would get some audience feedback and my reasons for this were that i was going to get feedback for the products that i had designed in order to find out what their opinions on my product were as at the end of the day they are going to be my target audience. i chose to use a pose on my front cover that is relatively similar to the front cover of Q as this issue sold very well according to the statistics. however i have not used the same pose although this was my initial idea, but i then decided that my magazine might not sell as well with an image of a model doing a similar pose to a professional one as this could cause conflict as well. i decided that i would be different in accordance to costume on the front cover of Q with reasons being that i wanted my model to be in budget as the audience would want to copy of this style and would want it to be affordable. I also decided that i would use the same style of fonts on my front cover however i had to make sure that they were different but of the same style, i made mine look like it was for a more younger audience as both the target audiences are different as mine is for the more younger teenagers whereas theirs looks more mature. My primary research showed me that the audience wanted to see a product that was relateable to them and that was eye catching, i took this into account when designing my product as initially i was going to use a red and black colour scheme but then remembered about my primary research and decided that i would use a bright and colourful colour scheme as i knew that more people would be attracted to it then.
this was the professional magazine cover that i took influence from. I took influence from many of the features that have been used on the front cover such as the alignment of the sell lines and the set up of them and my reasons for this are that by having them at one side it gives me room on the other side to include each other feature. I also took influence from the masthead as i already had one in mind initially but then when i found a magazine to copy from this one seemed the best idea as it gave me plenty of room for the othe features and it looked plain and simple as this is what my audience feedback showed. I also took influence of the layout/style with my main reasons for this being that this was a style that caught the attention of my audience as being a good layout which meant that this would be something which would grab their attention and would be something that they would purchase so this was my main reason for designing my magazine with this format/style/layout.

MY ROUGH CUTS :

to my front cover i made numerous changes based on the feedback that i was given from my teachers and peers. on the front cover the changes that i made were that i changed the colour scheme from red and black to green and yellow as these colours were different and eye catching which was something that i knew that i needed to aim towards. I also changed the amount of stylistic features that were used on my cover as there was somethings that i missed out such as a skyline and a puff. Some of the features came to my attention as they were either to small or too big so this way i had to change these sizes to what would be reasonable. other changed that i made to the front cover were that i changed some of the fonts and especially the ones that were used on my sell lines as they don't look understandable and look too immature for the genre that i am based on and my target audience. i was told that i needed to include the name of my model on my cover as well as fill up some space as it looked too plain so i did both of these just by adding the models name in the top right hand corner.

my contents page needed a lot of changed done to it to make it look professional. the first thing that i did to the contents page
was that i got rid of the box that introduced the band and my reasons for this were that i realised that there was other things that i could of included that would of been more professional and eye catching, this information would of been used on a page later on in my magazine. i also changed the colour scheme and got rid of the red as it was no longer  colour that i was going to use. to make it look as if the contents page linked in with the front cover i decided to put a black border along the top and bottom of the page so that people could link the two pages together with each other. the fonts were another thing that i changed in my product as the fonts used were something that i was pulled up on as some of them looked plain and wouldn't be used in a music magazine as they weren't quirky. I also changed the size of the image as it looks too stretched and makes the photography look unprofessional. the thing that i kept the same was the layout as i was told that it was professional and looked realistic and my reasons for this was that i had a professional contents page up when i was designing the layout of mine, the main influence that i took from this was to have a three column set up as it makes it look professional.

my DPS didn't have too many changes needed as this was the page that i spent the longest on. i was told that i needed to have more creative fonts for the quotations so i went away and found ones that were more interesting. I also changed the colour scheme but didn't use too much green as i kept the questions that i asked in red and this was just to break it up. i realised that i had some white space left on the right page at the bottom so went away and took more images of the model. i also added a black border to the top and bottom of the page to make it look distinctive and noticeable that it was all the same magazine.
my rough cuts were something that i worked on for a long time however dont look very good compared to my final products. The rough cuts gave me an idea of how i needed to change my products to allow them to be up to the standard that i expected them to be. After designing my rough cuts and getting feedback from my peers and teachers i was allowed to make changes depending on what features that i liked the look of in the professional magazine. I changed some of the features in my magazine because i felt like they werent what the target audience would want and i knew that this would be the case as i continually got feedback from my peers around me during production. I knew what was expected of my products by conducting my primary and secondary research which showed me that they wanted something that was eye catching but relatively relatable. I knew that it would be tough to try and impress each one of my target audience so i thought that i would make the changes as something that i would like to see in a music magazine seems as though i am in the age band of which i am aiming at.
The changes that i made were that i changed the colour scheme as i thought that red and black were boring and were tended to be used in the majority of magazines so for this reason i changed it to colours that wouldnt of been thought to use as this would catch the attention of the audience as they would think more of it as i have taken a risk which would mean that the inside was different too. I also changed the features that i had included for instance i reorded my sell lines and made them stand out more with a different font and worded them better. I also added new features such as a puff and a skyline which made it look more professional and this would increase my marks as it is something that is needed to be included as it is a feature that is needed.

evaluation 4

following secondary research in the initial stages of my project i found the audience of adults would be the main people that i targeted for my product as they would be the people who would have the money to pay for a product like mine, i was also going to aim my product at them as they would be the people who had the most music knowledge so would be able to understand all of the content that was included.

i then conducted primary research which suggested teenagers therefore the audience for my media product would be teenagers and the reasons for this is that these are the people who are interested in the media and are people who feel the need to keep up with what is going on in the media industry. i think that my product will aim to the teenagers who are in the age band between 16-21 for many reasons such as the fact that they are the people who are most likely to purchase this item and ones of the sort and this has been proven though statistics that have been previously recorded. I aim to sell my magazine to females who are interested in every day occurrances such s work related along with social. these people will be interested in reading accounts of famous people which will be included in my magazine i have chosen this audience as i think that this will be the audience that it most likely to be influenced due to the content that is included.

my product will appeal to these people as i have done some research into what they would prefer to be in a magazine that is aimed at them. because i am of the age that i am appealing to i was able to put down what i would prefer in a magazine that was aimed to my age band. I have not ruled out males in my magazine i just think that it would be easier for me to aim at one gender which i could think more of. The males will still be able to purchase my product but i don't think that they will enjoy it as much as the female population as the majority of this content was based around what the females would want as i didn't take into account the preferences of the males as i wasn't going to aim it at them.
